From a recent interview of Mr. Mike by Elizabeth Evans:
Can you tell me about the workshops you do?
The seminars, classes and workshops I do are entitled, Women's Self-defense - "Staying in the Moment!"
The idea is to educate women and help them change the way they respond and react to external encounters. These encounters may be as simple as a conversation or it may be a more traumatic situation. The training involves some meditation, awareness drills, education, self-defense and "the element of surprise" techniques, and discussion about being able to apply what you learn. Being able to apply what you learn is "KEY"!
The concept of "staying in the moment" came about from my research of
how women generally respond to these events and why. Women are wired differently than men and are culturally taught to be open and engaging.
This however does not work well in today's society. Women also have a flinch mechanism and usually close their eyes and turn away from danger or perceived danger. This can cause a big problem as you can guess! Turning away from something coming towards you can be very dangerous. You can't see what is happening and you won't be able to respond properly to the situation.
By understanding these reactions, I have designed my program to address these problems. The result is that by using the principles I teach, women are more confident and more aware of their surroundings. They can also respond properly and focus by "staying in the moment" to resolve the conflict.
The results have been amazing. We are finding that these principles and techniques can be used successfully in every area of our life. Women (anyone for that matter) can utilize these principles during medical exams, conversations with their boss or coworkers, even at home with family and friends. The principles allow you to concentrate quickly and focus on what needs to done at that very moment! The result could be the difference between life and death!
Changing the way someone does things and the way they think isn't easy. You have to prove out your theory. I not only tell them, I show them it works! They then see that it works and want to be able to have that ability!
*The interesting thing is that it's not always about conflict resolution. By doing things with intent you can change the moment, the rest of your day, or the rest of your life!
What do you hope participants will take away from your workshop.
I hope the participants take away a sense of "new found ability". They always had what it takes, they just didn't know where to find it and how to put it all together.
These principles help you focus, do things with intent and get the results you desire.
